WWE, COVID-19, and the Future of Wrestling

With over 3,091,141 COVID-19 cases worldwide, and over 1 million in the U.S. alone, many wonder when things will get back to normal. Especially if you’re a fan of wrestling, you’re probably wondering when the WWE will resume so you can get tickets for the next event.

In this article, come discover the future of wrestling and how it’s impacted by the coronavirus. Read on to discover when exactly you can start enjoying your games and have some peace of mind.

Is the WWE an Essential Service?

While state officials are scrambling to ensure most of society is closed, Florida deems WWE an essential business. It’s agreed that essential business falls under law and order, healthcare, and grocery stores.

If you head to Orange County Florida, they recently held a marquee show this month.

Governor DeSantis ordered all to stay home April 3rd and beyond unless they’re an essential business. On April 9th, Jared Moskowitz, the director of Florida’s Division of Emergency Management added media production and professional sports to its list of essential workers.

Many are confused by this finding since health experts don’t want people gathering unless absolutely necessary.

Wrestlemania streamed live this month to avoid gatherings, but there was still contact between the wrestlers in Tampa Bay.

Who Stays and Who Goes?

After Wrestlemania, it’s common for some wrestlers to be let go but unfortunately, there was a long list. One of those members was WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle.

The full list includes:

  • Kurt Angle
  • Drake Maverick (James Curtin)
  • Rusev (Miroslav Barnyashev)
  • Luke Gallows (Drew Hankinson)
  • Zack Ryder (Matthew Cardona)
  • Curt Hawkins (Brian Myers)
  • Karl Anderson (Chad Allegra)
  • Heath Slater (Heath Miller)
  • Rowan (Joseph Rudd)
  • Eric Young (Jeremy Fritz)
  • Mike Chioda
  • Sara Logan (Sarah Rowe)
  • No Way Jose (Levis Valenzuela)
  • Maria Kanellis
  • Mike Kanellis (Mike Beenett)
  • Aiden English (Matthew Rehwoldt)
  • EC3 (Michael Hutter)
  • Epico (Orlando Colon Nieves)
  • Primo (Edwin Colon)
  • Lio Rush (Lionel Green)

A Positive Test

A WWE employee tested positive for COVID-19. Not part of the WWE roster, but on-screen talent. This person who tested positive wasn’t in contact with anyone from WWE after being exposed to the virus. They’ve since fully recovered and are doing well.

To protect fans, you can enjoy WWE from the comfort of your home. They plan to record many shows in advance on closed sets to protect fans and the wrestlers.

WWE is ensuring safety for their wrestlers by taking everyone’s temperatures before they’re allowed in the arena, and social distancing when not on stage.

Roman Reigns pulled out of WrestleMania 36 due to fears of getting sick and hinted at health concerns. He has been immunocompromised and has been battling leukemia but is currently in remission.

He also won’t go up against Bill Goldberg for the Universal Championship because of these health concerns.

Currently Resuming

While the taping resumes, others aren’t so lucky to continue filming. Governor Gavin Newsom in California pressured Disney to stop UFC 249. The UFC president, Dana White, said that they agreed to step down due to their respect for ESPN and Disney.

They had scheduled UFC 249 for April 18th on ESPN PLUS pay-per-view, which had been canceled. White said he plans on having a building set up on a private island so fights can be filmed and proceed.

As of now, WWE was planning on doing 5 weeks’ worth of filming and then sending everyone home. They’ll be filming at their NXT Arena at Full Sail University in Winter Park, FL, and the WWWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. 5 weeks of each show will be taped along with the Main Event and 205 Live episodes.

Then they received the call to go live. So now you can enjoy WWE weekly shows on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Meltzer stated that both WWE and AEW both violated state orders when they had more in their closed-set taping than allowed. WWE is currently doing as much as they can to avoid the spread of the virus.

Safety Measures

Currently, the WWE Network is doing everything they can to continue offering shows. They’re also cutting expenses to make up for the lack of public shows.

They’re currently:

  • Delaying building on the company’s new headquarters
  • Limiting operating expenses
  • Decreasing the board member and executive compensation
  • Decreasing talent expenses

Due to COVID-19 being up in the air for the future, that’s another reason they cut the workforce.

When Will in Person Events Begin Again?

It looks like they’re currently planning the next events to resume in July in Florida and other locations. It appears that events sooner than this have been canceled due to COVID-19. You can always plan ahead and get your WWE tickets in advance.

The Lover Tour: Will the Taylor Swift Show Go On?

Recently, Taylor Swift announced that she would be embarking on a festival tour. Titled, Lover Fest East + West, she tweeted that she wanted to perform it in a way that felt authentic. So, she decided to perform in places she hasn’t been to before. Traveling from Werchter, Belgium to Sao Paulo, Brazil, Swift promised fans a tour of music, fun, and a whole lot of summer sun.  However, with COVID-19, everyone wants to know will the Taylor Swift show still go on? Is Taylor Swift “Lover” Tour Canceled or Postponed?

Congrats, Swifties, the tour is still on track! However, that doesn’t mean that it won’t be canceled or postponed at a later date.

Justin Bieber, for example, has already postponed his tour to a later date. His Changes tour was supposed to kick off May 14th. So will Taylor Swift follow the example of other celebrities? It’s too soon to tell.

Although, if she does decide to postpone her tour dates, don’t fret, due to the length of the tour, it shouldn’t be any longer than one to two months. That would put her tour dates into September and October at the latest.

What is Taylor Swift’s Tour Dates?

As it stands now, Lover Fest will start June 20th in Werchter, Belgium, and end near August 1st in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

Loyal fans will notice that compared to her other tours, this tour is smaller. Her Reputation stadium tour had six shows in the U.S; however, Lover Fest only contains four dates so far.

Many fans have speculated that more dates will be announced closer to when the tour begins. Thus, don’t worry if you are unavailable to travel to one of her concert locations. There’s still a chance you can see Taylor Swift’s music concert right in your home town.

The North American leg of her tour will begin in July. Taylor will open in the Los Angeles’s new SoFi stadium with back to back shows starting on July 25th. By doing so, she’ll become the first woman in history to open an NFL stadium.

She’ll then head to Foxborough, Massachusetts, on July 31st and preform in the Gillette stadium. There she’ll complete two more shows.

The 3 Most Thrilling NHL Hockey Brawls Of All Times

Back in the days when ice hockey had just started, there used to be moments when players got into serious brawls that it resulted in emptied benches onto ice. This is famously known as bench-clearing. Since this is not allowed anymore, people have almost forgotten what a true donnybrook really is. So here’s a list of the top three brawls in the history of NHL that will give you a closer look into what ice hockey was like a few decades ago.

  1. Philadelphia Flyers Vs Montreal Canadiens (5/14/87)

The Conference Finals of 1987 saw an unexpected brawl in Game 6. The Philadelphia Flyers were playing against the Canadiens in Montreal and the latter team liked to end its pregame warm up by sliding a puck into their opponent’s empty net after they left the ice. For some reason, the Flyers asked them not to do it in that particular game. Claude Lemieux still ended up doing it, resulting in an interesting brawl between the two teams before the game had even started. Since most players were already in the locker room, they had to come back running, without even wearing their jerseys, to take part in the brawl.

  2. Toronto Maple Leafs Vs LA Kings

The story behind this one is pretty good. In the Campbell Conference Finals, the LA Kings were visiting the Toronto Maple Leafs for Game 1. While on their way to winning the game, Toronto’s best player, Doug Gilmour, who was just harmlessly skating across the ice, was suddenly hit by King’s enforcer Marty McSorely. It was a dirty hit is what most people say. The team came crumbling down after Gilmour got hurt. This is when another player stepped up and tried to deliberately make a wrong right. This leads to Wendel Clark, the first-liner, heading for McSorely to defend his teammates, resulting in one of the most classic brawls of all times.

  3. Ottawa Senators Vs Philadephia Flyers

At the end of the game between Ottawa Senators Vs Philadephia Flyers, when there were only 2 minutes left to play, Donald Brashear and Rob Ray squared up and dropped the gloves. Even before it dawned on the others, both benches cleared immediately and lo and behold, a brawl! At the end of it, 3.20 players had been ejected and a record 419 combined penalty minutes were handed out.

While these would have been a delight to watch live, you could still not lose hope and prep yourself up for the next game of NHL, Philadelphia Flyers vs. Toronto Maple Leafs, on March 27, 2019. 3 Reasons Why the Blue Man Group in Las Vegas Is a Must Watch

Three bald and blue characters playing around with pipes and marshmallows- sounds intriguing, doesn’t it? The Blue Man Group, which was co-created by Chris Wink, Phil Stanton and Matt Goldman, initially started with performances at iconic off-Broadway platforms like LaMaMa. The group really took off when their 1988 performance, which was titled “Funeral for the 80’s” was captured by Kurt Loder, an MTV correspondent. Since then, they have been unstoppable. Although it began as a three-person act, gradually it grew to include more Blue Men. The act has been running at the Luxor Hotel and Casino since 2015, and if you are in Las Vegas, you must definitely catch a show. Here’s why:

  • The act hasn’t changed much over the years.

You may expect a group such as The Blue Man to come up with something new every year to maintain its audience, but you couldn’t be more wrong. The Blue Man acts haven’t changed even after more than two decades and they are still going strong. It has, in fact, become their strong suit. However, they have introduced new segments that satirize the human obsession with technology, such as a segment with a selfie stick and their own tablet computers known as ‘GiPads’.

  • You can be a part of the show.

A Blue Man show encourages the audience to be a part of the spectacle, voluntarily of course. Dancing along to the group will teach you some of the best dance moves imaginable, whether it is the one armed fist pump or the head bob. As a part of their act, the cast members throw around multi-colored objects and so can the front row audience, who are called the ‘poncho section’. The name ‘poncho section’ comes from the fact that the people are given ponchos to wear because close to the stage, things get even more exciting. You will have to watch the show to find out how.

  • You will be treated to a multi-sensory experience.

The Group combines theater, art, comedy and music into an extravagant multi-sensory experience. The act, which the Group calls ‘modern vaudeville’, is accompanied by some spectacular visual effects and pumping music, which will keep you captivated from the beginning till the end. Their creative and imaginative uses of signature elements like PVC pipes and tubs are sure to leave you stunned.

The Blue Man Act is iconic in terms of live commercial performance. So, do yourself a favor and buy a ticket to the show to witness entertainment like no other. You can buy Las Vegas theater tickets online here.
