Exchange Program Swaps Performers Between Germany and Vegas

The United States and Germany are going to be involved in a cultural exchange program that will give performers on both sides a chance to go overseas. According to the reports regarding the new program, it will take place this fall, in November.

The program is called the American German Cultural Exchange Fellowship. It’s been made possible by German philanthropist Dorothee Hennings-Holtmann, who has funded it. The exchange will be between the Brandenburg State Theater Orchestra in Cottbus and the Las Vegas Philharmonic.

The basic idea is that guest performers — and not the entire group — will be sent between the Las Vegas Philharmonic and the Cottbus State Theater Orchestra. The LVP will send Alexi Kenney, a violinist, to Germany, while the CSTO will send Tobias Feldmann, who is also a violinist, to Vegas.

Feldmann is going to play on November 5 of this year, at the Smith Center. He’ll be putting on Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in D Major, along with the LVP. Kenney will play between November 18 and November 20, at the Brandenburg State Theater. He’ll be doing Barber’s Violin Concerto.

This is the first year that the fellowship has been used, though it could pave the way for many more exchanges over the years. Not only does it give members of the bands a chance to play overseas and experience what it’s like to be with another group, but it also gives the rest of the group a chance to learn from the performers who arrive and work with them. Even for those who aren’t actively travling, it should be an educational and eye-opening experience that can help them all get better at their craft.

For fans, it also means a chance to see world-class musicians play without the travel. Those in the United States who have always wanted to see Feldmann live, but who did not have the time to travel all the way to Cottbus, will find it convenient to hit up Las Vegas instead. This will help to keep the performances fresh and entertaining, and it’s sure to be a huge draw.

Emphasis on Fun in the Theatre

Las Vegas and the Emphasis on Fun in the Theatre

When you go to Broadway, the theatre is more serious and subdued. It’s thought of as the heartbeat of American theatre, and there’s an emphasis on artistic merit. It’s the type of place you go in a suit and tie or your best dress, going to the show after eating dinner at a fancy restaurant. And, certainly, there can be a high-class draw to this that has made Broadway enticing to so many.

But Vegas is a different animal. In Vegas, like the city itself, the theatre is about fun and excitement. The shows are geared around having a good time and enjoying yourself. Vegas is synonymous with nightlife and the party atmosphere, and the shows reflect that.

Just look at some of the shows that are coming up this fall. At the Luxor, you can go see Criss Angel on his Mindfreak tour. The famous illusionist is edgy and exciting, always trying to make the audience lose their minds. Every trick pushes the envelope a bit more. It can be a loud, rowdy experience, and you’re never going to forget the illusions that you see. See how the Lipstick in the Palm is done below.

Speaking of illusionists, Penn and Teller are often at the Rio Hotel. When you buy tickets to their shows, you get a good dose of comedy along with the illusions. They make sure you have a fun time and focus on engaging the audience. Those who have watched them on TV for years will love seeing them in person.

Another option is the Blue Man Group, which is in Vegas all the time. They’re unlike any group that you’ve seen before. They’re known for their creativity and they’ve been building on it since 1991. This is one of the more famous entertainment acts in the world. It started out in New York, but they’ve really found a home for themselves in Las Vegas.

All of this isn’t to say that New York doesn’t have its own draw or that you can’t go to more serious shows in Vegas. You absolutely can. As one of the biggest theatre hubs in the United States, it has everything. If you want a more traditional experience, you can find it, and you’ll love it.

However, Vegas is different than any other city in the United States. It has an exciting vibe, and people tend to go there to let loose. It caters to a more casual type of entertainment. Comedy shows are huge, pop stars play some of their biggest shows, and everyone kicks back and has a good time. If you’re planning your trip to Vegas now, it’s wise to buy your theatre tickets in advance so that you can plan everything else accordingly.
