Musicals are a major part of American entertainment culture. We have all heard of Broadway whether we grew up in a musical theater home or only heard about it on television. Broadway has provided some of the best musicals and plays for fans, many of which have lasted decades. One of these plays includes the ever popular and imaginative Into the Woods. Stephen Sondheim worked his magic when he wrote and released this musical in 1986 in the Old Globe Theater, and released it in 1987 on Broadway. It charmed audiences while teaching us an important life lesson – be careful what you wish for because things could turn sour.

Into the Woods: Be Careful What You Wish For

Into the Woods starts out with all of your favorite fairytale characters singing about wishing for something particular. It ranges from Cinderella wishing to go to the ball and the baker and his wife wishing for a child. There is a wood where many characters believe their wishes will be granted, and all of them head inside, including the story’s villain, an evil witch. This play is a delight to watch, and the second act is just as hilarious as the first, though we learn that wishes do have consequences. A few years ago, many fans of the musical began wishing for a movie adaptation, and now they are all wondering if they should have been careful wishing for an adaptation.

Not Your Ordinary Disney Movie

Disney decided to adapt this musical for fans in film format, giving everyone a chance to see it. However, Into the Woods is not your typical Disney film, making many fans of the musical cringe at just what Disney might change. It is because of this that every fan of Into the Woods is strongly suggesting that their friends and family see the actual musical live before (or after) seeing the film this Christmas. The play provides a fun atmosphere for all in attendance, and you do not have to worry about any changes made to be more family-friendly; you will get the entire musical. Watching Into the Woods live is not something anyone should miss out on!

Stephen Sondheim Works Magic On and Off Screen

If you are a fan of musical theater and have yet to see Into the Woods, you should make it a priority. While Stephen Sondheim can work wonders on screen, he does an incredible job off screen and on stage. Go see this play live to experience the full wonder of Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods before seeing it in theaters! You will be glad you did since you get to experience the wonder and magic that might be lost when translated to the big screen.
