Steelers Breathe New Life Into Dying Season, Leap Forward In Playoff Hopes

 Steelers Ravens 2102

With three out of four of the remaining games in the roller coaster Steelers season being home games, it’s easy to imagine the confidence filling the locker room following Pittsburgh victory over Baltimore on Sunday. The Ravens were poised to clinch a playoff spot by downing the Steelers. But Pittsburgh had other plans, successfully crushing the Ravens’ 15-home-game winning streak. Not only did Pittsburgh do so on the road, but against a team that had humiliated them at home only two weeks previous. But they needed every second of the game to do it.

Beginning with a Joe Flacco fumble and ending in a 42-yard field goal, the Steelers marched down the field in a stunning pair of drives by Charlie Batch, who looked more like Ben Roethlisberger than a 37-year old backup quarterback. A 42-yard field goal as time expired gave the Steelers the crucial three points to break the tie and capture the crucial victory. While Ben Roethlisberger spent his third straight week recovering from an injury on the sidelines, Troy Palamalu returned to help give the defense the energy they needed to hold on in the second half. James Harrison strip-sacked Flacco to set up a game-tying touchdown, also contributing to the return of the infamous Steel Curtain.

With three home games left in the season, Pittsburgh Steelers tickets will be readily available at HeadlineTickets.com. With the toughest game on their calendar behind them, the Pittsburgh Steelers have every right to expect a reasonable shot at one of the two remaining slots for the wild card this year. Ike Taylor will miss the Steelers’ next game due to an ankle injury he suffered on the second play of the Baltimore game (his first miss in eight years), and all eyes will be on Big Ben to make progress on his shoulder injury this week.
